Sweet, fast, easy and safe. Basically you start the installer and after 3 minor steps you are installing Ubuntu in a image file on your windows filesystem- no partitioning. The only change to Windows is a minor aditional entry in the windows bootloader to boor Ubuntu from the file in Windows. Yes, it is possible to move it to a partition in a later phase.
Use an open source tool (tfpd32.exe) on Windows to other machines into a small Ubuntu installer. The installer download all software over the Windows system which is connected to the intertubes.
